CPI Events in a Prop Journal: Keep Reference Month and Release Vintage
A CPI event record has a reference period and a publication time. Those are different dates. Before relating a release to a prop-account decision, preserve the exact series and the value available at that decision time.

Name the CPI series and adjustment
BLS distinguishes CPI series and explains their revision treatment. Its FAQ states that CPI-U and CPI-W are generally final when issued, with corrections possible, while C-CPI-U has subsequent revisions. Do not apply one series’ revision convention to every CPI observation.
Retain the series identifier, geography, seasonal-adjustment status, reference month and source vintage. A headline percentage and an index level are different fields. This site’s existing CPI resource provides the companion comparison method.
Work a fictional saved-vintage comparison
Suppose two saved observations explicitly identify the same reference month, series, adjustment and unit. An earlier fictional vintage gives 300.0 index points and a later one 300.3. Their difference is 0.3 index points, or 0.1% relative to the first value.
That is a comparison of the supplied vintages, not an actual CPI release or a 0.3 percentage-point inflation change. A decision made before the later vintage existed must retain the earlier available information. Do not improve its inputs after seeing the outcome.
| Field | Earlier saved vintage | Later saved vintage |
|---|---|---|
| Reference month / series | Same supplied identifiers | Same supplied identifiers |
| Index level | 300.0 | 300.3 |
| Difference in points | Baseline | +0.3 index points |
| Relative change versus earlier | Baseline | 0.1%; not inflation percentage points |
Check account permissions independently
A release calendar does not establish permission to trade an event on every account market. HashHedge’s current product and method conditions still apply. Keep the original publication instant, local US Eastern display and actual order evidence as separate records.
The optional sponsored HashHedge link offers current programme information. This page forecasts no release, surprise or trade. The numerical vintage example is fictional and supplies no actual account performance or guarantee about news-event execution.
